LSS member Sadikur Rahman will be speaking to Farnham Humanists about “The importance of secularism in the UK today”. The talk is on Sunday 15th February 2015 at 7pm at Daniel Hall, Long Garden Walk, Farnham GU9 7HX.
Sadikur was the first person to draw attention to the Law Society’s ill-fated practice note on “Sharia succession rules”. Following persistent campaigning by the LSS and others, the Law Society eventually withdrew its practice note, publicly apologised for issuing it, and also deleted all the sharia training courses from its website.
Sadikur will discuss the National Secular Society (of which he is an elected council member), his concerns about the potential encroachment of sharia law into the UK legal system, and his personal journey towards secularism.
